In the pulping workshop of a paper mill, there is an inconspicuous but crucial piece of equipment—the screen basket. It’s a cylindrical metal structure with a surface covered in numerous holes and slits, and it’s the core working component of the pressure screen.
What is a screen basket?
in simple terms, the screen basket’s task is to separate qualified pulp fibers from impurities. Under pressure, the pulp passes through the screen openings or slits of the screen basket; qualified fine fibers pass through smoothly to become “accept pulp.”
The location of the screen basket in a paper mill
Coarse Screening Part: Processes the pulp fresh from the pulper, removing large impurities and unbroken paper scraps.
Fine Screening Part: Further removes fine impurities, providing clean pulp for the paper machine.
Fiber Classification: Separates long fibers from short fibers. Long fibers can be used for high-strength paper, while short fibers are used for lower-end products.
